url='http://www.emilymillerdc.com/2010/08/25/mediabistro-miller-lands-new-gig-at-human-events/';size='small';username='@EmilyMillerDC';By Betsy Rothstein on Aug 25, 2010 04:33 PM Emily Miller has a new job as as senior editor for the conservative news siteHuman Events. Her primary beat will be political investigations. She will no longer be a TWT contributor. The news is rather timely karma wise. This is the very week that her former boss, ex-Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas), also had some good luck and was cleared by the Justice Department. The investigation led to in-depth stories with splashy scandal-torn headlines about Miller in WSJ and WaPo regarding the Jack Abramoff ordeal. “Its been a long five years being unfairly associated with and blamed in this ongoing investigation,” Miller told FishbowlDC. “All the former staff became collateral damage.” But that’s all over now, she says, a relieved note in her voice. “I’m thrilled to move forward and aggressively go after the real scandals and ethics violations,” she said. “Onward and upward.” Miller’s first day at Human Events is Thursday. A note (of warning) from Human Events Editor Jason Mattera: “We’re excited to bring Emily on board. She’s tenacious, smart, a helluva writer, and understands the importance of interactive journalism. Leftist politicians, in particular, should be nervous. Emily’s going to expose their corruption, hypocrisy, and vapid [...]

The site’s founder Nik Richie alleges that Quayle was a co-creator in 2007 and wrote about hot girls on the nightclub scene under the alias “Brock Landers.” Quayle denies both of these allegations. Quayle is one of ten Republican candidates vying in the August 24 GOP primary to replace retiring John Shadegg in Arizona’s 3rd District. “Who is Brock from the Dirty Celeb Brock’s Chick?” Richie posted as an “exclusive” on Monday. “I have kept it a secret until right now… the mystery man is Ben Quayle aka Brock Landers, the son of Vice President Dan Quayle.” Brock Landers is the porn-star character played by Mark Wahlberg in the movie Boogie Nights. “I’m not Brock Landers,” Quayle told KTAR-3TV. “He is 100% lying,” Richie fired back. “He’s the one who came up with ‘Brock Landers.’ I didn’t even know what that name is.” “I sent him on a mission to find the hottest chick in Scottsdale and he succeeded,” said Richie referring to the discovery of the sexy girl, deemed “Brock’s Chick,” in the post by Brock Landers. “I did get the hottest [...]

Referring to the legislature, Cuomo said, “I think I can be their best friend.” Emily Miller waits for the NYT Sunday magazine story on Lazio. Haberman says Rangel is playing to the district, not Congress. The Epoch Times throws AGNY candidate Sean Coffey a question about protecting Falun Gong members. Employees of a real estate development company raise money for Christine Quinn. Kevin Powell claims a court victory against Rep. Towns. The Assembly may return next week. Silver backs Genting. Donovan says he has the same stance as Obama on same-sex marriage. And Reshma Saujani tells John Harwood, “I’m not pro-Wall Street, I’m not anti-Wall Street. I’m pro-New York.” The background image: Wall Street bull statue. Tweet This Post

Rochester Mayor Duffy, who was picked by Cuomo for the lieutenant governor slot on his ticket, said that “the best resolution” to the emotional controversy is to make a “different decision” than building a mosque on the hallowed grounds of the 9/11 terrorist attack. The split in a major Democratic political ticket shows the bipartisan public outrage over the Ground Zero mosque could have an impact on the 2010 elections. Photo – SILive.com “I think one of the best outcomes would be if those who were looking to build it, perhaps out of respect, would choose to build somewhere else, so as not to take away from some of the emotional feelings – especially families have- of those who perished,” Duffy said on Capital Tonight TV. “If I were to build something that had a terrible gut emotional reaction to people, I would take a step back and perhaps, out of respect, look at my plans and say: ‘Could we do something different here?’” The top of the Democratic gubernatorial ticket, Andrew Cuomo, [...]

url='http://www.emilymillerdc.com/2010/08/10/national-review-and-about-those-local-new-york-politics/';size='small';username='@EmilyMillerDC';By Andy McCarthy The Ground Zero mosque has apparently split the Democratic gubernatorial ticket. Emily Miller of Human Events reports that Bob Duffy, Andrew Cuomo’s running-mate (for lieutenant governor) has come out against the project that Cuomo strongly supports. Duffy, who is mayor of Rochester, said that “the best resolution” to the emotional controversy is to make a “different decision” than building a mosque on the hallowed grounds of the 9/11 terrorist attack. Rick Lazio’s campaign issued this statement: “Andrew Cuomo’s position is so far out of touch with the people of New York, it appears his running mate Bob Duffy had to pull away from him.” Lazio has also called on Cuomo, who is currently the state’s attorney general, to investigate the opaque “Cordoba Initiative,” the entity behind the project. Cuomo — who seems to have a pretty low threshold for investigating business enterprises – has scoffed at Lazio’s suggestion, claiming there is no “criminal case” to investigate. Of course, the AG’s jurisdiction is not limited to criminalcases, and his office has jurisdiction to oversee non-profit organizations. Tweet This Post

Photo – ABC “None of our friends are going to Half Yards [official premiere party] anymore,” Tareq Salahi, Michaele’s husband and a contracted cast member of the show, told Human Events on Thursday. Mr. Salahi announced the party cancellation because his wife felt ambushed on the show. “The Bravo executives did nothing to help Michaele with the verbal onslaught back stage on The View,” Mr. Salahi said of an altercation with Whoopi Goldberg. “They watched and did nothing to a lovely lady in tears and shaken up.” ABC responded in a statement that “after being told she was being accused of hitting Ms. Salahi, Whoopi proceeded to defend herself verbally from this baseless claim in a heated exchange with the Salahis.” “Whoopi Goldberg came from backstage behind Mrs. Salahi, shook her arm, and told her to move on and talk about the White House,” according to a statement released by the Salahis’ attorney Lisa Bloom. Photo - New York Post A detective at the NYPD 19th precinct confirms to Human Events that Giuliani was handcuffed at the scene and brought to his station for arrest. The police gave Giuliani a desk-appearance ticket to appear in court and released her several hours later. Midday on Wednesday, Sephora’s security spotted Giuliani on the store’s video surveillance allegedly stealing five items worth over $100. “She was caught red-handed. She knew it, and didn’t act out,” a police source told the New York Daily News. While waiting for the police to arrive, Giuliani gave store security her ID and said, “I’m an actress,” a police source told the New York Post. Giuliani, who is a senior at Harvard University, co-produced the Harvard-Radcliffe Summer Theatre’s production of “The Rocky Horror Show,” which opened on campus last week. The District Attorney’s office did not return a call on whether criminal charges will be filed against Giuliani. Her lawyer Michael Bachner did not return a call for comment. The official “private premiere screening” is hosted by Half Yard Productions, a local production company which produced the Housewives series and sold it to Bravo. All the cast “housewives” – Stacie Scott Turner, Mary Schmidt Amons, Catherine Ommanney, Lynda Erkiletian and Michaele Salahi — will attend the live premiere party, according to a Half Yards rep. “The event is private and is a screening for the family and friends of the ladies in the show,” says a rep for Half Yard. The party of 250 is invitation-only at the Madison Hotel. Media coverage is tightly controlled, with only “select media” invited “as guests and to cover” the event. The Half Yard rep says “several network cameras” are coming to cover the “private” event. Salahi, infamous for crashing the White House State Dinner with husband Tareq Salahi, is party hopping Thursday night. “We are going to both the Half Yards Party and also to 3 other parties around DC!” Salahi tells Human Events. The show is “unwatchable,” says one former ABC staffer. “She has remedial knowledge of politics,” says another ABC alum. “She’s totally pretentious.” The low ratings for the debut show reflect the viewers dislike of Amanpour’s approach to political debate. ABC’s This Week came in third place on Sunday, with 2.21 million viewers; NBC’s Meet the Press won the time slot with 2.81 million and CBS’ Face the Nation was second with 2.38 million. The long-time foreign affairs correspondent for CNN, Amanpour was lured to ABC with a $2 million a year contract to take over for George Stephanopoulos who now hosts Good Morning America. ABC president David Westin was criticized for the bizarre pairing of a foreign affairs correspondent with the show on U.S. politics. One former network TV exec calls Amanpour’s hosting a “new forms of elitism… see how many people you can offend.” Amanpour’s lack of knowledge of U.S. politics was most glaring in her exclusive interview with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. The interview was more “Schoolhouse Rock” than the policy depth accustomed to Sunday shows. Photo – [...]
